Tesla says so in a submission sent on 16 October 2026 to the Australian Senate, in which it asks for two things: a first autonomous vehicle trial on public roads as early as 2027, and the national autonomous vehicle law brought forward by two years, from 2029 to 2027. A French version of this article is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tesla-mag.com\/tesla-australie-fsd-voitures-autonomes-2027-senat\/\">available here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Tesla is asking the Senate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The document, registered as submission 258 by the Senate Select Committee on Productivity in Australia, deals mostly with electrification: the grid, electric trucks, road user charging. Its last two recommendations are about autonomous driving:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Recommendation 7<\/strong>: that the Commonwealth \u201csupport an AV trial in 2027\u201d, working with industry to grant permits for trials on public roads until the national framework is in place;<\/li><li><strong>Recommendation 8<\/strong>: that it work with the states and territories to \u201cprioritise and accelerate\u201d the proposed Autonomous Vehicle Safety Law (AVSL), currently expected in 2029.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tesla notes that the framework was first proposed by the National Transport Commission in 2016 and remains \u201cfragmented\u201d, with \u201cuncertain timelines\u201d. Bringing the law forward by two years would, according to the company, \u201csave hundreds of lives and prevent thousands of injuries\u201d and unlock more than $10 billion in benefits, a figure it attributes to modelling by the Autonomous Vehicle Association of Australia. It also cites a federal estimate of up to 800 lives saved a year at full adoption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FSD figures in Australia, according to Tesla<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Compared with Teslas driven without FSD (Supervised) engaged, Tesla says drivers with it activated have seen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>40%<\/strong> fewer collisions;<\/li><li><strong>90%<\/strong> fewer harsh braking incidents;<\/li><li><strong>86%<\/strong> fewer harsh acceleration incidents.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are Tesla&#8217;s figures; the submission does not detail the method, the period covered or how collisions are counted.
