10 tips for controlling your Tesla
Here are some tips for brand new owners of a Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model Y or Tesla Model S. If you haven’t yet taken possession of your Model 3, don’t forget your Checklist delivery so you don’t forget anything (this is a document to print so you can concentrate on the day of receipt)

- To use the volume wheel on the steering wheel to reset the autopilot reminder message.
- Place your left hand on your leg while holding the steering wheel to prevent Automatic pilot to manifest.
- This isn’t specific to Tesla, but with an Apple Watch and Apple Music, you may have someone in your car requesting a song and they may be able to look at your watch and say “Hey Siri, play what you want”, and it starts playing music – it’s really fun.
- Keep a plastic bin in the center console where you can easily store things that might slip.
- Always, always tell new drivers to press the button to open the door, both when they enter and as soon as you stop the car!
- You have to pre-condition your battery to get full supercharger speed. I drove for an hour once when it was a little cold outside. The supercharger was still great, but only charged at about half the speed I expected
- If your door doesn’t unlock when you walk to the car, take a moment to say “Damn Tesla, why didn’t you include a key fob with passive entry!”, then pull out your phone and open the Tesla app. Your phone probably shut down due to full memory.
- Put a small umbrella in each front door pocketit’s just practical.
- Keep the charging adapter in the hole left trunk. It’s so convenient to be able to open the trunk and take it out without having to unzip the main cargo bag, or do anything else.
- Tap the rear camera icon when traffic is a little heavier, so you can confirm lane changes with more confidence.
